MORE SNOW! Output continues to increase as we dial in the systems on the Cloud 2. In contrast to the lackluster snow in the mountains right now, it’s getting awfully snowy around the shop!

December 2024

Now that it’s been cold enough to make snow, we’ve been steadily increasing our snowmaking output! It’s snowing in the Quantum Snow shop a little more each week. We’ve still got some ways to go before we reach our target output rate, but we’re getting closer and closer with each tune and modification.

October 2024

We spent the last couple of months making a number of upgrades to the electrical and pump systems on the Cloud 2 to prepare for our demo this winter. The goal of these upgrades is to improve our snowmaking performance at marginal temperatures, and increase snow output. We’re now busy testing and preparing for the winter! Fingers crossed for good snowmaking weather in November and December.

It works! Right at the buzzer, during the last cold spell of the season, we got the Cloud 2 making snow. The video shown is from an endoscopic camera inserted into the machine. We’ll do more tuning and tweaking over the summer, and then we’ll make a lot more snow in the fall. It was a huge moment for us after grinding so hard through the winter and spring.

March 2024

Springtime was a mad sprint of tuning, tweaking, and calibrating all of the systems on the Cloud 2 in preparation for making snow. A big shoutout to Kyle for many long, and sometimes frustrating, nights and weekends in the shop.

January 2024

Once we were settled in the new Quantum Snow headquarters, it was time to attach all the big subassemblies to the top and sides of the machine. We quickly realized that if we wanted to save our backs and shoulders, we really needed a gantry to do all the heavy lifting for us. Here are some shots of the gantry build. Look at all that space in the new shop too. Also Peter and his wife welcomed their baby son to the world!

December 2023

Time to upgrade the shop! We outgrew the space in Peter’s garage, and with the help of a round of angel investment, we signed a lease on a commercial space. Shoutout to Atlas Rigging for their 5-star work moving the Cloud 2 to its new home. They were absolute artists with a forklift.

September 2023

The compressor was installed, and the electronics for the control system were finally finished. Also engineer Dave and his wife welcomed their baby son!

May 2023

We’ve got a compressor! Super thankful to have Kyle’s amazing engineering skills to get this beast hooked up and functioning.

December 2022

Pumps and electronics! We began mounting pumps and some of the electronics for the control system. Still a long ways to go from here, but it was awesome to see some of the guts starting to be filled in. And a huge shout out to the team, including our partners, for all their hard work and dedication along the way. We couldn’t have even come close to making this all happen without them.

August 2022

On that grind - literally. We spent lots of sweaty nights and weekends in the shop with either a soldering torch, angle grinder, or a MIG welder. A big shout out to Trey for straightening and shaping all 800ft of copper coil needed for the inner workings of the prototype. I don’t think he ever wants to see copper pipe again in his life.

January 2022

Construction begins! After a lot of hard CAD work on the part of our engineers Dave and Kyle, the design of the Cloud 2 is ready to be brought to life! Trey rattled all of the bones in his body running an angle grinder hours and hours, and Peter’s mediocre welding skills made their primetime debut, but everything has held together so far! There’s nothing like seeing a CAD model start to become the real thing.
